2014 is the Year of the うま uma [ Horse ].

We made an うま uma New Year's Day postcard

as our title page in our Japanese books.

We made うま uma to take home.

In February we celebrate 節分Setsubun also known as
まめ まつり mame matsuri.
It is a time for getting rid of bad luck and
inviting good luck in.
*
We said:
おにはそと !ふくはうち !
Oni wa soto!
Fuku wa uchi!
'Bad luck go away, good luck please come and stay !'
*
We chased an oni on the oval and threw rice at it to scare it away.
Then we ate まめ mame [ roasted soybeans ] ... as many as our age,
for good luck.
*
We had lots of fun making our own oni mask !
